Refused for a Blue Badge? The official route is not a tribunal — it's asking your council to reconsider, or reapplying with the evidence they missed. This site explains both, with every fact checked against GOV.UK.
Blue Badge refused — how to get the council to look again
Your council assessed the application on the evidence in front of it. If important information was missed — or the eligibility route was misread — you can ask it to reconsider. There's no fee, and it works: the refusal letter usually tells you exactly what to fix.

Frequently asked
Can I appeal a Blue Badge refusal to a tribunal?
No. Unlike PIP or ESA, there is no tribunal for Blue Badge decisions. The official route is to ask your council to reconsider the decision if you believe important information was not taken into account — or to reapply with stronger evidence.
Why was my Blue Badge application refused?
Councils refuse most applications because the written evidence did not demonstrate the eligibility criteria were met — for example, missing medical proof, an assessment report that contradicts your description, or answers that were not supported. The refusal letter should state the reason. If facts were overlooked, ask the council to reconsider.
How long does a Blue Badge decision take?
GOV.UK says councils usually decide within 12 weeks, and assessments can take longer — your council cannot start assessing until they have all the necessary evidence, so incomplete applications stall.
Do PIP points guarantee a Blue Badge?
Not all PIP awards. You qualify automatically with 8 points or more under the 'moving around' activity, or 10 points specifically under descriptor E of 'planning and following journeys'. Any other score — including 12 points under descriptor E — means you do not automatically qualify, though you can still be eligible after an assessment with supporting evidence.
What should a reconsideration request say?
Keep it factual and short: your reference details, the decision date, exactly which information was not taken into account, the evidence attached, and what outcome you are asking for. Our free letter builder produces this for you — it runs entirely in your browser.
Can I reapply after a refusal?
Yes. There is no waiting ban. If your mobility has worsened or you have new evidence — a fuller medical letter, care records, a mobility assessment — a fresh application often succeeds where the first did not.
